English 1766

A contemporary interpretation of Caslon in 20 styles, drawing on historical type specimen research rather than direct revival.
About
Built from close study of historical Caslon foundry type specimens and more recent digital revivals, English 1766 takes the quintessentially British old style as a starting point rather than a template. Ten weights from Thin to Heavy, each with a matching italic, extend the family well beyond the range of any original Caslon cutting. The breadth of the weight range makes it serviceable across editorial, branding and text work where an old style serif with contemporary flexibility is needed.
Classification
Rooted in the Caslon tradition, which places it firmly in the old style serif category. A2-Type describe it as a contemporary interpretation rather than a strict revival, giving it a broader weight range than historical Caslon cuts.
