Independent Sans Stencil
A2-Type · 2013

A stencil cut of the Independent newspaper's sans-serif family, sharing the same proportions as the broader Independent type system designed in 2013.
About
Part of a large type system originally commissioned for The Independent newspaper's print and digital editions, this stencil variant extends the family into more expressive display territory. Five weights run from Light to Black, each carrying the interrupted stroke pattern typical of stencil design while remaining structurally consistent with the companion sans. The broader Independent family received a D&AD Yellow Pencil in 2014 and the Typeface Design prize at the Tokyo TDC in 2015.
Classification
A stencil variant of a humanist sans designed for newspaper use; the stencil cuts create interrupted strokes while retaining the proportions of the underlying sans family.
