Independent Slab
A2-Type · 2013

A slab serif drawn as part of A2-Type's commissioned type system for The Independent newspaper, covering five weights with matching italics for print and digital use.
About
Designed in 2013 as one member of a larger interconnected family built for The Independent's daily print and digital editions, the Slab shares underlying proportions with the accompanying serif and sans cuts. Five weights run from Light to Black, each with a companion italic, giving editors a full range for body text through to section headings. The broader Independent family earned a D&AD Yellow Pencil in 2014 and the Typeface Design prize at the Tokyo TDC in 2015.
Classification
A slab serif designed as part of a larger newspaper type system, sharing proportions with the serif and sans counterparts; the uniform bracketed slabs and sturdy weight range place it firmly in the slab serif tradition suited to print and editorial use.
