displayornamental display
India specimen from A2-Type

An ornamental display face commissioned by Wallpaper* magazine in 2011, drawing on the geometric pattern language of Indian Kolam floor art.

About

Originally created as a custom typeface for Wallpaper* magazine's 'Reborn in India' issue, the family takes its visual cues from Kolam, a traditional South Indian practice of drawing intricate patterns on floors using rice or chalk. Two cuts are offered: Regular and Regular Solid, the latter filling in the patterned voids of the letterforms. The uppercase-only character set limits its use to display headings and titling work where the decorative geometry can read at scale.

Classification

An elaborate display face inspired by traditional Indian Kolam floor drawing and pattern art, with decorative geometric patterning built into each letterform, placing it firmly in the ornamental display category.
