New Airport Dot
A2-Type · Margaret Calvert / Kinneir, Calvert, Tuhill Ltd. · 1970

A revival of Margaret Calvert's circa-1970 dot-matrix lettering for British Airports Authority illuminated shop fascia signs, expanded from a single-weight lowercase to a full five-weight family.
About
Originally created by Kinneir, Calvert, Tuhill Ltd. for internally illuminated signage at Gatwick Airport, this revival restores and extends the original lettering with capitals, lining and non-lining numerals, and punctuation across five weights numbered 1 through 5. It sits apart from the better-known Calvert direction signage, being purpose-built for retail fascias rather than wayfinding. The result is a typeface with a specific institutional history that lends itself to display work, branding and anything drawing on mid-century British public design.
Classification
