Margaret specimen from Abyme

A limited-edition anodized aluminium intercom panel referencing Margaret Lanterman, the Log Lady from David Lynch's Twin Peaks, combining milled, printed and engraved lettering with a photographic portrait.

About

Produced in an edition of 16 plus four artist's proofs, this 540 × 480 mm anodized aluminium panel adapts the aesthetic of metal intercom systems with a photograph by Thomas Grünfeld, originally made for an exhibition of fireplace sculptures. The engraved name and title refer to Twin Peaks' Log Lady, whose log functions as a medium of communication, mirroring the intercom form. It sits between functional object and art multiple, oscillating between the familiar and the uncanny.

Classification

Margaret is an art edition rather than a typeface; it is an anodized aluminium panel with milled, printed and engraved lettering, placing it firmly in the display/decorative category as an object-based typographic work.
