Modern Gothic Poster specimen from AllCaps

A narrower, high-contrast poster cut completing the Modern Gothic trilogy, drawn from early American gothic sources including Franklin Gothic and Barnhart Brothers condensed gothics.

About

Designed by Malte Bentzen and released in 2025, it refines every curve and counter rather than simply condensing the standard Modern Gothic, resulting in oval-shaped terminals and increased stroke contrast that suit large-scale display work. Three weights — Medium, Bold and Black — each come with a matching italic, plus a variable font, and the proportions are balanced to pair with the Modern Gothic Standard and Mono siblings. Historical reference material from Barnhart Brothers & Spindler (1901) and American Type Founders (1906) underpins the design, carrying features like the double-storey g forward into a contemporary cut.

Classification

The foundry classifies it as Neo Gothic/Grotesk, drawing on early American gothics such as Franklin Gothic and Barnhart Brothers condensed gothics. It shares the double-storey g and sturdy terminals characteristic of the American grotesque tradition.
