A geometric sans drawn from the Bauhaus-inflected phototypesetting grotesques of the late 1960s and 70s, reworked with rounded corners, a high x-height and multiple stylistic alternates.
About
Taking cues from Herbert Bayer's Universalschrift and the Letraset-era work of designers such as Herb Lubalin and David L Burke, Youth reimagines that distinctive genre with optically corrected curves and dynamic rounded terminals rather than strict modularity. Six weights run from Thin to Black with matching italics, and an extensive OpenType feature set includes lightweight contrasting diacritics, contextual alternates and both kinetic and geometric alternate characters. The result suits headline and branding work where a recognisably Bauhaus flavour is wanted without the rigidity of its historical sources.
Classification
Youth draws directly from the Bauhaus-inflected phototypesetting grotesques of the late 1960s and 70s, tracing back to Herbert Bayer's Universalschrift forms. Its high x-height, rounded corners and optically corrected curves place it firmly in the geometric sans tradition.
