A display serif built from the collision of Cooper Black's warmth, Vietnamese calligraphic terminals and the geometric rigour of Art Deco and Constructivist letterforms.
About
Inspired by the prevalence of Cooper Black on Vietnamese street signage, Medley synthesises several distinct visual traditions: the soft, pooling stroke terminals of Vietnamese calligraphy, the geometric structure of French Art Deco and Russian Constructivism, and an undercurrent of Danish design sensibility. The result is a hybrid typeface that sits comfortably in both Eastern and Western contexts without being fully anchored in either. Extensive Vietnamese diacritic coverage makes it genuinely usable for the Chữ Quốc Ngữ writing system, which is rare for a display face of this character.
Classification
Medley blends soft, pooling serifs derived from Vietnamese calligraphy with the geometric construction of French Art Deco and Russian Constructivism, resulting in a decorative display serif that defies straightforward classification.
