Designed by Alanna Munro and released in 2023, Kyoshi offers sixteen styles in total: eight built from pixel structures ranging from squares and dots to hearts and knits, each paired with a COLRv0 colour version featuring a customisable gradient palette. The character set goes beyond basic Latin to include fractions, math symbols, arrows, emoticons and video game icons, with a discretionary ligature for the Konami Code sequence. The typeface was inspired by lettering from the 1989 game Sky Robo and the 1993 game Fire Barrel.
Classification
A display typeface constructed entirely from pixel-art grid structures across eight stylistic variants; its form language derives from 8-bit arcade and video game lettering rather than any conventional typographic tradition.
