monogrotesque monoitalicmono
Name Mono specimen from ArrowType

A monospaced grotesque drawn from the tile mosaic lettering of the NYC Subway, built for code and data use with expressive italics and extensive OpenType alternates.

About

Derived from the same source material as Name Sans — the hand-laid ceramic name tablets of the New York City Subway — Name Mono translates those part-geometric, part-grotesque letterforms into a fixed-width family of 18 static styles and 2 variable fonts spanning nine weights. The italics depart deliberately from the uprights, offering more visual contrast and switchable alternates to aid readability in code editors. Over 300 languages across Extended Latin are supported, alongside features including optional code ligatures, slashed zero, oldstyle figures and brutalist punctuation.

Classification

A monospaced typeface drawing on the part-geometric, part-grotesque letter construction of NYC Subway tile mosaics, with industrial detailing and expressive italics suited to code and data contexts.
