About
The original Schmalfette Grotesk was drawn by Haettenschweiler in 1954, inspired by 19th-century American wood types, and became a defining face of the phototypesetting era, most visibly through Willy Fleckhaus's editorial work for the West German magazine Twen. Sbalchiero's update retains the spirit of the all-caps original while adding a complete lowercase, three punctuation sets and titling and below-cap diacritic variants. The result is suited to contemporary titling and logotype work where tight spacing and mid-century authority are the point.
