TwoTone Collection
Bal Foundry · Guillaume Sbalchiero · 2026

A checkerboard-structured display family in fourteen styles named after bands and tracks from the 2-Tone ska scene, released as a typographic diptych with its filled counterpart OneTone.
About
Designed by Guillaume Sbalchiero and released in 2026, the family takes its structural logic from the black-and-white checkerboard of the 2-Tone Records label, founded in Coventry by Jerry Dammers of The Specials. Seven styles run across each subfamily, their names drawn from the genre's lexicon: Ghost, Selecter, Beat, Madness, Jam, Checker and Specials. TwoTone makes the rhythmic grid explicit; OneTone fills the white squares, absorbing the pattern into solid form while the underlying pulse remains.
Classification
A modular display typeface built entirely on a checkerboard grid structure, placing it firmly in the display category with a geometric, pattern-driven construction rather than any conventional type classification.
