About
Originally released in 1997 in the run-up to the millennium, Apocalypso is less a workhorse typeface than a conceptual artefact containing crosses and pictograms organised around themes of end-times. The crosses serve as decorative ornaments within typographic layouts, whilst the pictograms illustrate apocalyptic scenarios that Barnbrook describe as prophetically close to the present day. The name merges 'apocalypse' with 'calypso', nodding to the idea of making light of catastrophe.
