Where Exocet adapted ancient lapidary letterforms into a serifed display face, Patriot strips the serifs whilst hewing more closely to the original stone-carved source material. Unique and alternative character forms give it a distinct identity beyond its sibling typeface. The name, borrowed from a surface-to-air missile system and the jingoism it implies, is a deliberate provocation about the capacity of language to carry both peace and violence.
Classification
Derived from early Greek and Roman stone carving traditions, Patriot is a display sans without serifs but with the angular, incised quality of lapidary lettering rather than any modernist grotesque lineage.
