Prototype
Barnbrook · Barnbrook

An experimental typeface from Barnbrook that collapses the distinction between serif and sans-serif, and between uppercase and lowercase, into a single unified alphabet.
About
Prototype emerged from a period of design's own identity crisis, posing the question of whether a rational, universal alphabet is desirable or even coherent. It merges serif and sans-serif letterforms and sidesteps the uppercase/lowercase divide, producing something that is none of those things entirely. The result is a conceptual piece that interrogates the conventions of type design rather than serving conventional typographic needs.
Classification
Prototype deliberately blurs the boundaries between serif and sans-serif, uppercase and lowercase, making it an experimental display typeface that resists conventional classification.
