slabreverse contrast slab
Discotack specimen from Big Fog Foundry

A reverse contrast slab serif by Brian Dove that fuses disco-era lettering with a loose, organic Western sensibility, inspired by Benguiat's Discotheque (1967).

About

Where most reverse contrast display types rely on rigid geometry, Discotack introduces flowing, irregular strokes that give the letterforms an off-kilter, handmade quality. Capitals set together produce near-flat text bands top and bottom, while the lowercase introduces a wavy, undulating texture suited to playful settings. Aimed squarely at logos, large-scale display use and any context that calls for theatrical personality over neutrality.

Classification

Discotack inverts the conventional stress of a slab serif, placing thick strokes on the horizontals rather than the verticals, in the tradition of reverse contrast or Tuscan display types. Its organic, flowing forms set it apart from the angular genre norm.
