Gayot New specimen from Big Fog Foundry

A contemporary eight-weight revival of Jean-Pierre Gayot's 1973 Mecanorma dry-transfer lettering face, extended from its original single Black weight for headline and logo use.

About

Brian Dove's reworking of the Mecanorma original retains the source material's odd mix of retro and futuristic character while adding seven new weights from Thin to Black. OpenType alternates offer a no-descender option, alternate letterforms for a, c, G and Y, and case-sensitive punctuation, giving designers room to push the face further for short-burst display settings. Best suited to logos, call-outs and large-scale headlines where its slightly awkward charm reads as personality rather than accident.

Classification

A revival of a 1970s dry-transfer lettering face with an explicitly decorative, headline-only character; its futuristic yet retro tone and short-descender options place it firmly in the display category with a retro-futurist flavour.
