Gandur Alte specimen from Blackletra

A geometric display textura in three weights, developed from a strict hexagonal grid and drawing on Max Bittrof's Element (1933) while retaining historically accurate letterforms.

About

Designed by Daniel Sabino and released in 2014, Gandur Alte is the more historically faithful half of the Gandur family, preserving period-accurate forms for characters such as S, X and Z that its sibling Gandur New modernises. The design began on a hexagonal grid but shifted towards pen-based construction in the heavier weights, giving Fett a more organic feel than the strict geometry of Mager. A long-s is available via Stylistic Set, switching automatically to short-s at word endings for historically correct composition.

Classification

Gandur Alte is explicitly described as a display textura, rooted in geometric textura tradition with reference to Max Bittrof's Element (1933), and retains historical blackletter forms throughout.
