Area JP specimen from Blaze Type

A variable geometric sans covering Latin and Japanese kana scripts, designed to support both horizontal and vertical writing systems across eleven weights.

About

Designed by Matthieu Salvaggio and Caio Kondo, Area JP extends the Area font family with full Hiragana and Katakana support alongside extended Latin and Greek. The design begins from a modular geometric structure before settling into a quieter neogrotesque register, yielding even colour across diverse scripts. A variable font file spans Hairline to Extrablack, making it well-suited to multilingual publishing, branding and screen work where Japanese and Latin sit together.

Classification

Area JP is described explicitly as a variable geometric font family with neogrotesque characteristics; the modular geometric construction with a quiet, neutral tone places it firmly in the geometric-neogrotesque tradition.
