Discotack specimen from Blaze Type

A reverse contrast slab serif drawn from Art Nouveau curves and the uppercase forms of Benguiat's Discotheque, designed for headlines and logos.

About

Brian Dove's single-weight display face fuses the flowing organic strokes of Art Nouveau with the reverse contrast structure of 1960s disco lettering, taking Ed Benguiat's Discotheque as its starting point while softening the genre's characteristic hard angles. Set in all caps, the letterforms create a near-flat top and bottom to each line; introduce the lowercase and a wavy, undulating texture emerges across the text block. Coverage extends across Latin European languages with a thorough glyph set including extended diacritics.

Classification

Discotack is explicitly described as a reverse contrast slab serif, where horizontal strokes are thicker than verticals, combined with organic Art Nouveau-influenced curves rather than the geometric rigidity typical of the genre.
