Joly specimen from Blaze Type

A Dutch-inspired transitional serif by Léon Hugues, structured across three optical sizes for use from continuous text to display settings.

About

Begun as a revival research project drawing on 18th-century Dutch type, Joly developed into a fully contemporary family of 24 styles spanning Text, Normal and Display subfamilies, each with four weights and matching italics. The three optical sizes are calibrated for different reading distances and scales, making the family practical for editorial systems and complex typographic layouts. A variable font file is included alongside static TTF and WOFF formats.

Classification

Inspired by 18th-century Dutch type, Joly sits in the transitional serif tradition with classical proportions adapted for contemporary use across multiple optical sizes.
