Kurs specimen from Blaze Type

A high-contrast display serif by Sandro Bonomo, built around stark thick-thin transitions and spiky serifs drawn from a conceptual rereading of the Renaissance.

About

Designed by Sandro Bonomo and released in 2024, the family spans six weights from ExtraLight to ExtraBold, each with an italic, and is also available as a variable font. The design draws on the instability of transitional periods, translating that tension into sharp serifs, flat curves and opposing stroke weights. Available in TTF, WOFF, WOFF2 and variable formats, it covers Latin European languages.

Classification

Kurs is explicitly described as a display serif, with stark thick-thin contrasts, spiky serifs and expressive terminals that are characteristic of high-contrast display work rather than text use.
