Blaze Type · Nicolas Dupuis · 2023

A single-weight gothic display face by Nicolas Dupuis, built from calligraphic research and paper-cut forms to produce dense, interlocking letterblocks.
About
Letters were first drawn with calligraphic reference, then cut from black paper to arrive at raw, sculptural shapes that borrow from gothic tradition without reproducing it literally. The spacing is a defining characteristic: glyphs are set to touch, forming a solid, almost monolithic block of text that reads as texture at large sizes. Best suited to poster and title work where its dark mass and overlay potential can be exploited.
Classification
Designed with explicit gothic inspiration, letters derived from calligraphic research and cut from black paper to produce raw, incisive forms. The foundry describes it as simplifying the gothic letter in a unique black style.
