Obert
Blaze Type · Maksym Kobuzan · 2023

A two-axis variable modular typeface by Maksym Kobuzan in which capsule-shaped units rotate up to 180 degrees and letters tilt 45 degrees, collapsing readable text into abstract decoration.
About
Built from identical capsule modules, Obert lets each unit rotate 180 degrees while the overall letterform tilts in 45-degree increments, producing results that range from legible display type to near-abstract pattern. The family divides into three branches: Obert Variable for the core rotation and tilt system, Obert Bright Variable which uses the same axes to simulate varying luminosity, and Obert Exp which offers five static cuts inspired by physical properties such as chip, thorn and screen. Its name derives from the Ukrainian word «Оберт», meaning rotation. Coverage extends to Extended Latin, Greek and Cyrillic.
Classification
Obert is a modular variable typeface built from capsule-shaped units that rotate and tilt, giving it a strongly experimental and display character; it cannot be classified within conventional typographic categories.
