Rules JP specimen from Blaze Type

A neo-grotesque extended from the Apoc family to cover Latin, Hiragana and Katakana, with support for both horizontal and vertical Japanese typesetting.

About

Rules JP adds Japanese kana to the Rules/Apoc family, covering Hiragana, Katakana and extended Latin across nine weights in a variable file. The design follows Swiss Modern grotesque conventions: near-zero counter contrast, closed terminals and squared stroke endings that give text layouts an even optical grey. Both horizontal and vertical writing modes are supported, making it viable for body text in print, web and app contexts as well as headlines and signage.

Classification

Described explicitly as a contemporary neo-grotesque rooted in Swiss Modern type tradition, with near-zero contrast in counter-forms and squared terminals consistent with that genre.
