Santiag specimen from Blaze Type

A contemporary western display typeface by Clement Cases drawing on reversed-stress Italian letterforms from the 19th century, with geometric counter forms built around a half-circle motif.

About

Designed by Clement Cases and released in 2024, Santiag takes the reversed-stress tradition of 19th-century Italian typefaces and reworks it with geometric counter forms. The half-circle drives the rhythm of the letterforms, while square angles appear both inside and outside the characters across eight stylistic variants. A variable font axis controls the height of the base, allowing the overall feel to shift from bold display to something more cartoonish.

Classification

A contemporary western typeface with reversed stress inspired by 19th-century Italian typefaces, incorporating geometric counter forms and half-circle serifs. Its decorative, cartoonish character and adjustable base height place it firmly in the display category.
