Sapfir
Blaze Type · Valerio Monopoli · 2022

A chiselled display face by Valerio Monopoli that fuses the rhythmic patterning of blackletter with the minimal forms of Roger Excoffon's Antique Olive, available in three optical-size cuts.
About
Named after the Ukrainian word for sapphire, Sapfir takes its structural logic from gemstone faceting: sliced construction produces converging lines that collapse into ligatures and generate a dense, refractive texture on the page. Three families, Caption, TITL 50 and TITL 100, address small decorative use through to large-scale title setting. The hybridisation of blackletter rhythm with Antique Olive's blunt, confident forms gives it a voice quite distinct from either source.
Classification
Sapfir blends blackletter rhythmic patterning with the minimal shapes of Antique Olive, producing a chiselled display face that sits between those two traditions rather than squarely in either.
