Sigurd
Blaze Type · Matthieu Salvaggio, Léon Hugues · 2021

A display serif by Matthieu Salvaggio and Léon Hugues inspired by Norse mythology and medieval lettering, offered in 15 styles including semi-italic cuts and a variable file.
About
Drawing on the visual language of swords, feudal armour and medieval letterforms from the Nibelungen Saga, Sigurd is built around a strong structural skeleton with a generous set of alternate characters and swashes. Five weights from Light to Heavy each come with upright, semi-italic and full italic variants, giving designers considerable range within a single family. It suits editorial headlines, branding and display work where a literary or archaic flavour is wanted without committing to full blackletter.
Classification
Sigurd draws from medieval lettering and Norse mythology, producing an elegant serif with strong structural construction, swash characters and alternate forms suited to display sizes rather than continuous text.
