Spinner Gothic
Blaze Type · Guillaume Sbalchiero · 2024

A grotesque sans drawing on early 20th-century American Gothic lettering and German Grotesk traditions, originally conceived for a type specimen and named after the designer's mother's maiden name.
About
Developed initially for the Blaze Type Specimen No.1, Spinner Gothic began as a revival of the circular engraving on the Swiss 5-franc coin before evolving into a freer fusion of typographic references. Nine weights with matching italics span Thin through Black, all available as a variable font with over 800 glyphs per style and a range of OpenType features. The result sits between American gothic weight and European grotesk restraint, suited to editorial, identity and print work that calls for classical grounding without period pastiche.
Classification
Described explicitly as drawing from American Gothic fonts of the early 20th century and German Grotesk lettering, with circular engraving influences from Swiss coinage. The mix of American gothic and German grotesk traditions firmly places it in the grotesque sans-serif category.
