Tangley
Blaze Type · Sasha Smirnov · 2022

A single-weight display face drawn from Cy Twombly's looping graphic marks, built for tight-tracked headlines and poster work.
About
Designed by Sasha Smirnov and released in 2022, Tangley interprets the untitled graphic series of Cy Twombly through a typographic lens, emphasising the characteristic loopiness of letterforms and a compressed vertical rhythm. The x-height is pushed high to minimise the contrast between upper and lowercase, creating a dense, visually uniform texture when set at tight or negative tracking. Suited to headlines, book covers, movie titles and large-format wayfinding where legibility is secondary to graphic energy.
Classification
Tangley is a display typeface inspired by Cy Twombly's looping, gestural mark-making; while it uses Latin letterforms, its exaggerated loops and intentionally compressed vertical rhythm place it firmly in the expressive display category rather than a conventional script.
