Zoo specimen from Blaze Type

A high-contrast display family by Quentin Coulombier, drawn from the vinyl sleeve lettering of a French jazz band and built around the asymmetric geometry of the letters Z and O.

About

Originally derived from the lettering on records by the French jazz group Zoo, the design uses the Z and O as structural templates for the entire character set. The asymmetrical distribution of forms gives the family a rhythmic, dancing quality suited to editorial and identity work at display sizes. Two width variants, Condensed and Extended, are available as variable fonts.

Classification

A high-contrast display typeface with strong asymmetrical construction, combining sharp and round forms inspired by vinyl sleeve lettering. Its dramatic weight contrast and jazz-inflected character place it firmly in the display category.
