Brando Arabic
Bold Monday · Khajag Apelian, Wael Morcos, Mike Abbink · 2019

An Arabic companion to Brando in eight weights, designed by Khajag Apelian and Wael Morcos to work alongside both Brando and Brando Sans across display and body copy settings.
About
Following Naskh script conventions, Brando Arabic mirrors the constructed-yet-organic character of Mike Abbink's Latin original by mapping slab detailing onto features inherent to the Arabic script, such as the Dal tail, the Hah's first stroke and the Kaf. Eight weights run from Hairline to Black, with increasing thick-thin contrast across the range, supporting Arabic, Persian and Urdu alongside an extensive Latin script coverage. The family won a Communication Arts Award of Excellence in 2018.
Classification
Brando Arabic is an Arabic companion to the Brando slab serif, following Naskh script conventions while echoing the slab detailing of the Latin original through naturally occurring Arabic typographic features such as the Dal tail and Yeh stroke.
