Buendia
Bold Monday · César Puertas · 2009

A graduation project by César Puertas that builds six formally distinct styles — grotesque, rounded, slab-serif and transitional — from a single shared skeleton.
About
Rather than progressing through weights alone, Buendia varies finishing across its six members: a thin and medium sans, a roman and italic serif, a bold slab and an extra beefy rounded sans. All share closed apertures, swashy tails and slightly curved diagonals, which lend the family a consistent warmth across otherwise contrasting styles. Suited to packaging, advertising and editorial work where a designer needs tonal variety without switching families.
Classification
Buendia deliberately spans grotesque, rounded, slab-serif and transitional styles within a single family, making it impossible to place in a single category; display is the best fit given its expressive range and primary use cases in packaging and advertising.
