Designed by Pieter van Rosmalen between 2002 and 2008, Capibara draws on the experiments of artists like Theo van Doesburg and H.Th. Wijdeveld, constructing every letterform from orthogonal strokes alone. Slightly rounded corners soften the inherent rigidity, and the letterforms deliberately avoid strict grid adherence to prevent the coldness common in modular designs. Ten styles span proportional and monospaced variants across five weights, with small caps, multiple numeral sets and broad Latin coverage included.
Classification
Capibara is built exclusively from horizontal and vertical strokes with no curves, placing it firmly in the geometric modular tradition. Its Constructivist references and strictly rectilinear construction make it a display typeface despite the availability of a monospaced variant.
