About
Designed by Jacques Le Bailly in 2012, the five styles — Line, Solid, Background, Shaded and Shading — can be used individually or stacked in layers to create chromatic, illusionistic typography. Each character is drawn in two alternating variants, cycled automatically via OpenType contextual alternates to keep the rhythm of the letterforms visually lively. Stylistic alternates for A, E, N and O add further variation. The concept draws on the impossible-object tradition explored by Oscar Reutersvärd in the 1930s and made widely known through M.C. Escher.
