About
Designed from 2012 to 2017, Pilot was developed as a condensed jobbing face suited to headlines, posters, book jackets and packaging. Its angular letterforms and handmade character lend it a nostalgic warmth, particularly evident in the bold italics where sign-painter influences come through most strongly. The family includes two variants of small caps that mimic traditional catchwords and logotypes, and it remains one of the few contemporary typefaces available as metal type, winning first prize at the Fine Press Book Association's inaugural Student Type Design Competition in 2013.
