Brut Grotesque specimen from Bureau Brut

A deliberately neutral neo-grotesque spanning ten weights with italics, conceived as Bureau Brut's own workhorse typeface and inspired by Helvetica, Akzidenz-Grotesk and Neue Haas Grotesk.

About

Designed by Yoann Minet from 2015 and first published in 2020, it aims for the proud impersonality associated with the Swiss neo-grotesque tradition, keeping the typeface subordinate to the content it carries. The family runs from Line to Black across 20 styles, all with italics, and is mirrored by a full Brut Grotesque Mono subfamily of equal weight range. It serves as the foundational typeface across Bureau Brut's broader type collections.

Classification

Designed with explicit reference to Helvetica, Akzidenz-Grotesk and Neue Haas Grotesk, positioning it firmly in the neo-grotesque tradition of neutral, impersonal sans-serifs seeking functional invisibility.
