Baldinger specimen from b•v-h type

A contemporary neo-grotesque by André Baldinger that sits between Akzidenz Grotesk's roughness and Helvetica's coolness, across seven carefully graduated weights.

About

Designed by André Baldinger and released in 2022, the family spans fourteen styles from an exceptionally fine ExtraHairline (5-unit stroke) through to Heavy, each with matching italics. Uppercase letters are drawn slightly narrower than convention to improve economy in both text and sign systems, while small caps, discretionary ligatures and an extensive set of OpenType stylistic alternates give it considerable typographic depth. The result sits within the Swiss neo-grotesque tradition without being a revival, carrying enough personality to avoid the blankness of Helvetica.

Classification

Explicitly described as a contemporary neo-grotesque connected to the Swiss school and International Typographic movement, sitting between Akzidenz Grotesk and Helvetica in texture and warmth.
