Rando specimen from Camelot

A contemporary revival of German romanesque typefaces from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, designed by Maurice Göldner in five weights with text and display versions.

About

Drawing on models such as Anker Romanisch by Schelter & Giesecke and Hamburger Römisch by Schriftguß A.G., Rando brings a largely overlooked category of German type back into circulation. The family runs across five weights from Regular to Black, each with a matching italic, and splits into text and display versions for different optical requirements. A comprehensive OpenType feature set includes alternate letterforms, old-style figures, contextual alternates and localised forms across approximately 250 Latin-based languages.

Classification

Rando is explicitly described as a homage to German romanesque typefaces of the late 19th and early 20th century, a distinct Latin serif tradition characterised by sturdy, upright forms with bracketed serifs and a roman-style construction.
