About
Designed by Thomas Schostok and Stefan Claudius, CA Saygon Display grew out of hundreds of discarded sketches during an unrealised corporate identity project. The three-weight family uses unconventional letterforms intended to make visible the fractures of a postmodern society, while still cohering as a usable typeface. Spacing and kerning were handled by Igino Marini using iKern, and the glyph set covers Latin Extended, Cyrillic and Vietnamese with a full complement of OpenType features including fractions, superiors and stylistic alternates.
Classification
Classified by the foundry as sans serif, but its origins in expressing postmodern rupture and its deliberately idiosyncratic letterforms place it firmly in the display category rather than functional sans territory.
