Bona specimen from Capitalics

A digitisation of Andrzej Heidrich's 1971 Polish serif, expanded into a full family including display variants by Mateusz Machalski at Capitalics.

About

Originally drawn by Andrzej Heidrich, the designer responsible for Polish banknote typography, Bona was digitised and extended by Capitalics into a three-subfamily system. Bona Nova, the text family, is distributed free under an open licence and spans Regular, Italic and Bold. The display range splits into Bona Sforza and Bona Title, each with three weights, giving the family reach from continuous text to large-scale typographic work.

Classification

Bona is a classic triad serif originally designed in 1971 by Andrzej Heidrich, the designer of Polish banknotes, with a humanist serif character typical of mid-twentieth-century Central European type design. The display variants suggest a refined, calligraphic serif tradition.
