Chaconne specimen from Capitalics

A Renaissance-inflected serif drawn from Goudy Old Style and Excelsior, built without grids to preserve an organic, hand-guided rhythm across five weights.

About

Designed by Mateusz Machalski at Capitalics, Chaconne takes Goudy Old Style and Excelsior as its classical starting points, then reinterprets them through a process deliberately free of grids or modular construction. The result is a ten-style family whose softness and subtle variation feel more observed than engineered. Each weight is accompanied by an organic italic, and the family is suited to long-form reading where warmth and quiet expressiveness matter more than neutrality.

Classification

Chaconne draws directly from Excelsior and Goudy Old Style, placing it in the humanist/Renaissance serif tradition. Its organic construction, free of grids or modules, reinforces a warm, pre-rational sensibility.
