Mercato specimen from Capitalics

A display family rooted in hand-painted South American price tags, blending brush-script irregularity with geometric construction across five weights plus italics.

About

Designed by Mateusz Machalski over roughly three years, Mercato draws on the visual energy of hand-lettered market price tags and a rediscovered thick display face called Chrysler. The family balances spontaneous, organic line work against drafting-based geometry, enabling full interpolation across Light to Bold with matching italics and a variable font. Suited to logos, posters and headlines where warmth and movement are needed without sacrificing structural clarity.

Classification

Mercato sits at the intersection of brush script and geometric display lettering, inspired by hand-painted price tags and a thick display typeface called Chrysler, with organic irregularities constrained by drafting principles.
