Nocturne Sans
Capitalics · Mateusz Machalski · 2025

A contemporary grotesque with humanist undertones, designed in 2025 as a companion to Nocturne Serif, itself rooted in Warsaw's wartime commemorative plaques.
About
Developed by Mateusz Machalski with contributions from Karol Mularczyk, Małgorzata Bartosik and Borys Kosmynka, Nocturne Sans translates the Renaissance proportions and calligraphic warmth of Nocturne Serif into a sharper, more minimal form. The family spans ten weights from Hairline to Black, each with a matching italic, covering editorial, branding and identity applications. Its origins trace back to Karol Tchorek's 1949 Warsaw martyrdom plaques, giving the typeface a specific cultural grounding rarely found in contemporary grotesque releases.
Classification
Described by the foundry as a contemporary grotesque blending geometric precision with humanist warmth; a sans-serif companion to Nocturne Serif, sharing its historical origins but adopting a clean, minimal form.
