A digital revival of a rare 1934 Italian wood type, characterised by half-tube strokes with cut grooves that create a three-dimensional highlight effect across an all-caps geometric alphabet.
About
The original wood type was produced by Xilografia Meneghello e Belluzzo in Legnago around 1934, and no comparable letterforms from other Italian or European makers appear to exist. Designer Michele Patanè describes the revival as extremely literal, preserving idiosyncrasies such as the jagged alignment caused by curved vertical terminals, while making careful adjustments to proportions and groove thickness for digital use. Two OpenType stylistic sets offer taller parentheses and brackets for legibility, alongside historically accurate alternates for the comma and ampersand.
Classification
An all-caps geometric sans with a distinctive three-dimensional, half-tube construction derived from a 1934 Italian wood type original; its sculptural stroke treatment and decorative character place it firmly in the display category.
