AM Serie 610
CAST · Riccardo Olocco · 2024

A digital revival of a 1930s Italian wood type by Xilografia Milanese, in which every glyph is split by a horizontal band into a black upper half and a white lower half.
About
Riccardo Olocco's revival follows the original Serie 610 closely, preserving the wood-type letterforms built on straight lines and circles, along with distinctive details such as the round apex of A, the horseshoe N and the vertical tail of Q. The bisected band treatment that defined the original is reproduced faithfully, with an optional stylistic set reinstating the thin white vertical lines between characters that appeared in physical typesetting. Special sorts, including angled, rounded, arrowed and forked band pieces for titling, are accessible via OpenType features, recreating the original supplementary material sold by the foundry.
Classification
An all-caps display typeface reviving a 1930s Italian wood type, with letterforms built on straight lines and circles consistent with Art Deco geometric principles. The bisected black-and-white band treatment places it firmly in the decorative display category.
