AM Sirte specimen from CAST

A digital revival of a 1940 Italian wood type by Xilografia di Verona, revived by Fabrizio Falcone with regularised contrast and unified rounded forms.

About

The original Sirte was a condensed wood display type produced by Xilografia di Verona around 1940, characterised by strong thick/thin contrast, wide-open apertures and idiosyncratic letterforms including rounded E, M and N. Fabrizio Falcone's revival for CAST standardises the original's inconsistencies, bringing coherence to the interplay of rounded shapes and sharp angles without erasing its distinctive personality. Part of CAST's Modernisti series, it works at headline scale where its compressed proportions and high contrast can be properly read.

Classification

A highly condensed sans with pronounced thick/thin contrast and modular letterforms, originating from a 1940 Italian wood type. The strong contrast and idiosyncratic forms place it firmly in the display category rather than standard sans-serif.
