AM Tirana
CAST · Leo Philp · 2024

A digital revival of an Italian wood type from c.1938-41, drawn by Leo Philp with lenticular counters, sharp spurs and exceedingly open apertures.
About
Based on Tirana, a condensed geometric wood type produced by Xilografia Italiana of Badia Polesine, AM Tirana preserves the source material's low contrast, large x-height and characteristic open C and S alongside pointed A and N vertices. The design is set apart by its treatment of joints and spurs, which close at sharp angles or are squared off, and by its lemon-slice and lenticular counters. OpenType features reflect the original type's conventions, including raised dashes and compact parentheses for all-caps setting, plus stylistic alternates for the C, G, 6, 9 and ampersand.
Classification
Condensed geometric sans derived from a 1938-41 Italian wood type, characterised by low contrast, large x-height, open apertures and sharp geometric detailing including lenticular counters and squared or angled spurs.
