A digital revival of a c.1940 Xilografia di Verona wood type, preserving the Art Deco character of the original while rationalising its more erratic letterforms.

About

Originally cut as wood type by Xilografia di Verona around 1940, this condensed sans carries an unusually strong thick/thin contrast alongside rounded corners and a small x-height that together mark its Art Deco origins clearly. Andy Anzollitto's revival refines the letterform construction for digital use, introducing consistent terminal treatment and redrawn glyphs while retaining idiosyncrasies such as the vertical S, the oblique-stemmed M and N, and the elongated stems of p and q. The result is a single-weight display face with broad Latin language support, suited to headline and poster work where period warmth is wanted without raw historical roughness.

Classification

A condensed sans-serif with pronounced thick/thin contrast and rounded corners derived from a c.1940 wood type original; its geometric, streamlined character and period-specific detailing place it firmly in art deco display territory.
